The Dutch Queen-mother passed away today. Juliana almost reached the acceptable age of 95 and she was suffering from Alzheimer. She spent part of World War II in Ottawa where one of her daughters was born. They even declared that room of the hospital Dutch territory so the princess would be born on Dutch ground. Yes, we Dutch invaded Canada even if it was only for 1 day. Today Juliana's birthday is still celebrated as Queen's Day in the Netherlands (mainly because the current Queen was born during the winter and the better would be too cold for outdoor celebrations but still...) As I mentioned earlier, this year a big Queen's Day celebration also takes place in Toronto. Go to the Royal Dutch Treat web site for more information. We hope to see you there.
